Psalm Seventeen: A Prayer of David

Psalm 17 Hear me,   Lord , my plea is just;      listen to my cry. Hear  my prayer—      it does not rise from deceitful lips.   Let my vindication  come from you;      may your eyes see what is right. Though you probe my heart,      though you examine me at night and test me, you will find that I have planned no evil;      my mouth has not transgressed.   Though people tried to bribe me,      I have kept myself from the ways of the violent      through what your lips have commanded.   My steps have held to your paths;      my feet have not stumbled. I call on you, my God, for you will answer me;      turn your ear to me  and hear my prayer.   Show me the wonders of your great love,      you who save by your right hand      those wh...

Psalm Sixteen: Keep Me Safe

Psalm 16 Keep me safe,  my God,      for in you I take refuge. I say to the  Lord , “You are my Lord;      apart from you I have no good thing.”   I say of the holy people  who are in the land,      “They are the noble ones in whom is all my delight.”   Those who run after other gods  will suffer  more and more.      I will not pour out libations of blood to such gods      or take up their names  on my lips. Lord , you alone are my portion  and my cup;      you make my lot  secure. The boundary lines  have fallen for me in pleasant places;      surely I have a delightful inheritance. I will praise the  Lord , who counsels me;      even at night  my heart instructs me. I keep my eyes always on the  Lord .      With him at my right hand, ...

Psalm Fourteen: The Refuge of the Lord

Psalm 14 The fool says in his heart,      “There is no God.” They are corrupt, their deeds are vile;      there is no one who does good. The  Lord  looks down from heaven      on all mankind to see if there are any who understand,      any who seek God.   All have turned away,  all have become corrupt;      there is no one who does good,      not even one.   Do all these evildoers know nothing? They devour my people  as though eating bread;      they never call on the  Lord .   But there they are, overwhelmed with dread,      for God is present in the company of the righteous.   You evildoers frustrate the plans of the poor,      but the  Lord  is their refuge. Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion!    ...

Psalm Thirteen: A Plea for Deliverance

Psalm 13 How long,  Lord ? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me? How long will I store up anxious concerns within me, agony in my mind every day? How long will my enemy dominate me? Consider me and answer,  Lord  my God. Restore brightness to my eyes; otherwise, I will sleep in death. My enemy will say, “I have triumphed over him,” and my foes will rejoice because I am shaken. But I have trusted in your faithful love; my heart will rejoice in your deliverance. I will sing to the  Lord because he has treated me generously. - I don't know about you, but I am asking the same questions David is asking here, "how long?" So many of us are sharing up anxious concerns during this time with Covid-19. But look at David's words at the end here. He has trusted in the Lord and will continue to praise him. He acknowledged that he was concerned and scared and anxious. But, at the end of the...

Psalm Nine: I Will Praise You

Psalm Nine I will praise you, O LORD, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonders. I will be glad and rejoice in you; I will sing praise to your name, O Most High. My enemies turn back; they stumble and perish before you. For you have upheld my right and my cause; you have sat on your throne, judging righteously. You have rebuked the nations and destroyed the wicked; you have blotted out their name for ever and ever. Endless ruin has overtaken the enemy, you have uprooted their cities; even the memory of them has perished. The LORD reigns forever; he has established his throne for judgement. He will judge the world in righteousness; he will govern the people with justice. The LORD is a refuge for the oppressed,  a stronghold in times of trouble. Those who know your name will trust in you, for you, LORD, have never forsaken those who seek you. Sing praises to the LORD, enthroned in Zion; proclaim among the nations what he...

Psalm Eight: How Majestic is Your Name

Psalm Eight O LORD, our Lord,  How majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens. Out of the mouth of babies and infants  you have established strength because of your foes,  to still the enemy and the avenger. When I look at your heavens, the work  of your fingers,  the moon and the stars,  which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him? Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor. You have given him dominion over the  works of your hands; you have put all things under his feet,  all sheep and oxen, and also the beasts of the field, the birds of the heavens and the fish of the sea, whatever passes along the paths of the seas. O LORD, our Lord,  how majestic is your name in all the earth! -  I love this Psalm! It's a Psalm of...
